Hocoma’s Lokomat is a driven gait orthosis that automates locomotion therapy on a treadmill and improves the efficiency of treadmill training. The Lokomat improves the therapy outcome by providing highly intensive, individualized training in a motivational environment of constant feedback. Locomotion therapy supported by an automated gait orthosis on a treadmill has shown to be an effective intervention for improving over-ground walking function caused by neurological diseases and injuries in many cases. The Lokomat system assists walking movements of gait-impaired patients and is used to improve mobility in individuals following stroke, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis as well as other neurological diseases and injuries.
Hocoma is the global market leader for the development, manufacturing and marketing of robotic and sensorbased devices for functional movement therapy. The Swiss based medical technology company was founded in the year 1996 as a limited liability company by the electrical and biomedical engineers Gery Colombo and Matthias Jörg and by the economist Peter Hostettler.
